Emma Sheldon

A few years ago I started learning to paint in watercolour as a hobby and fell in love with it. Although I never did Art at school (and my day job is a Histopathologist so couldn't be farther from art), I always loved to sketch as a child and would never be seen without my pencils and paper. Some of my fondest childhood memories are sketching with my grandmother, who also enjoyed it as a hobby. I am also a member of the Urban Sketchers Stoke-on-Trent group where I regular attend their fortnightly meetups and enjoy the 'throwdown' of all our work at the end. I feel this has helped me improve my sketching from life and perspectives. I have recently been dabbling with mixed media and find I enjoy combining watercolour with acrylic ink and a bit of texture paste. I love taking my sketchbook on day trips and holidays to try and capture memories, which I feel are more vivid if captured as a sketch rather than a photo. I also enjoy painting using my own photos as references too.
